Worcester
City Centre
With
a backdrop of fascinating
historic buildings, stunning
riverside location and amidst
an attractive pattern of ancient
streets, Worcester's pedestrian
retail centre is home to around
500 shops and close on 100
places to eat, drink and relax
while you shop. It mixes the
very best of the UK's national
retailers with one-off independent
retailers only found at the
heart of this world-famous
Cathedral city.
As
one of the leading shopping
centres in the Midlands and
in the top 60 centres in the
country, Worcester's prime location
offers easy access. With 4,500
car parking spaces most with
secured car park status and
Foregate Street railway station
right in the heart of the city
centre you can be busy enjoying
your retail therapy literally
within minutes of your arrival. |
Worcester's
shopping centre is made up of
a number of distinct areas,
each with their own specialities.
The High Street forms the backbone
of the retail centre and is
home to many famous names from
Marks & Spencer and Boots
the Chemist to a range of fashion,
home and lifestyle shops. At
the southern end of the High
Street is Cathedral Plaza. Originally
developed in the 1960s it is
being comprehensively refurbished
and is making its mark with
the fashion-conscious with leading
retailers such as Next, H&M,
JJB Sports and Slater Menswear.
Running
parallel to the High Street,
the Shambles is home to Pratley's
unique china emporium. This
ancient street links the city's
multiple retailing area with
the specialist retailers of
Reindeer Court, Friar Street,
New Street, the Cornmarket and
the Hopmarket - atmospheric
historic streets which are home
to a large proportion of the
200 or so independent retailers
which thrive in Worcester.
Bisected
by Broad Street, the CrownGate
Shopping Centre is situated
on two adjacent sites. Accounting
for around a quarter of the
city centre's retail space CrownGate
is home to Beatties and Debenhams
department stores as well as
a range of other national chains
and a host of independent stores.
. With its own quality car parking,
cafés and programme of
entertainments, CrownGate also
offers a further choice of goods
through the city's open-air
market located adjacent to the
centre.
The
Royal Worcester Visitor Centre,
situated in the city's tourist
quarter, provides a convenient
factory outlet shopping experience
retailing home wares from a
dozen or so shops, as well as
the porcelain manufacturer's
own best ware and seconds shops.
The site, with its own car parking,
also hosts the city's farmers'
market which takes place on
the first Sunday morning in
every month.
